The government dismissed reports that it had “snubbed” the visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as he began his seven-day visit to India in homestate of the Prime Minister Gujarat, where he paid reverence at Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram, and visited the Akshardham temple and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) for to have a discussion.

On the issue “Not received by CM” The officials said that the CM could not receive him because he was present in the Assembly where the Governor presented the first day of the budget session,” Chief Secretary J.N. Singh told reporters.

PM Trudeau met with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, the government officials brushed sideways queries about why CM Rupani had not welcomed the Canadian Premier at the airport.

“Mr. Trudeau was very happy with all arrangements the government made during his brief visit,” officials added on the speculations.

The questions were raized the eyebrows after Prime Minister Narendra Modi  took side-step over Trudeau’s coming on Saturday and didn’t issue any proclamation or tweet to welcome him, as he usually does with visiting  political dignitaries, due to apprehension over the Trudeau government’s support to pro-home rule Khalistani groups in Canada.
