A 22-year-old girl was stabbed to death by a 25-year-old man outside her college on Friday. The man, claiming to be her husband, committed the murder in broad daylight. He was later identified as Alagesan. The girl has been identified as Ashwani Mohan, a second-year B.Com student at Meenakshi College in Chennai, who resided in Maduravoyal.

Reportedly, Ashwini was walking on the pavement outside her college when she was approached by Alagesan who first talked to her that escalated into a quarrel and eventually her murder. Alagesan stabbed her in chest and stomach. He ran away after the attack but was caught by people and thrashed before handing him over to the police.

The girl, who was rushed to KM hospital, was declared dead on arrival by the doctors. The police registered a murder case at KK Nagar police station.

Relatives of the girl discarded Alagesan’s claims about their marriage. They said that Alagesan had forcefully tied a mangalsutra at the girl’s home.

Alagesan, during police investigation, claimed that he had married Ashwini on February 16. He further claimed that they got into a rift soon after marriage and the same was registered at Maduravoyal police station. The officials there registered the case in Community Service Register (CSR) and took the couple’s statements.

According to police, Alagesan met Ashwini to patch up which escalated to her murder.
