Undoubtedly China has unspoken monopoly over the goods market across the world, you will be in for a shock to realize that a number of common foods that we believe belong to us, or to some other state, are also Chinese! Yes, China saw the origin of a number of popular foods like Sushi, Ketchup, Ice- Cream and Miso on its soil. For instance, Sushi first originated in China. Similarly, if you look at the ketchup, it is actually a joint effort of China, Britain, and America. But, if we trace back the history about who coined it first, China wins the race.

Pasta

Let us clear another myth, that pasta is Italian. There is a strong historical evidence that proves that pasta must’ve originated in China and not in Italy. It all began when the archaeologists found a 4,000-year-old bowl of intact noodles in China and then it became the oldest evidence of ancestral spaghetti.

 

Sushi

If you are a big-time Japanese food fan and especially sushi, let us tell you that you are actually a Chinese food lover, because Sushi first originated in China. Way before Japanese food scenario saw the emergence of sushi, people in Southeast Asia and Southern China were already preserving fish by wrapping it in cooked rice, letting it ferment or pickle for up to a year before eating it.

 

 

Ketchup

If we look at the ketchup, it is actually a joint effort of China, Britain, and America. But, if we trace back the history about who coined it first, China won the race. It was the Chinese who made “ke-tsiap,” the fermented fish sauce which later became our yummy tomato ketchup where tomatoes were added by Britain and later the Americans added vinegar and lots of sugar to it.

 

Ice Cream

Your all-time favourite dessert- Ice Cream actually originated in China. Though ancient Persians and Romans were the first who made flavoured ice, it was the Chinese who first added dairy to it.
