China has taken stern action against trains which failed to meet fuel consumption norms. The government has closed production of 553 Passenger Vehicle Models. The China Vehicle Technology Service Center, citing approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology or MIIT, reportedly said the suspension will take effect from January 1.

These models include FAA-Volkswagon, Beijing Benz Automotive, Cherry and Dongfeng Motor Corporation. China is promoting the production of electric vehicles here. Recently, China has increased the tax rebate on the purchase of each energy vehicle (NEV) to the end of the year 2020.

The government's decision has encouraged the construction of hybrid and electric cars.  “To emphasize a cut back on energy consumption, such documents will surface frequently in the future,” Wang said in an email. “It’s an essential move to ensure the healthy development of the industry in the long run.”

Earlier this month, the authorities reportedly announced that stricter emission limits will be gradually placed on new motor vehicles. In September, the MIIT had revealed that the country had started research on a timetable to phase out production and sales of fossil fuel cars.
