MYSURU: The Mysuru City Corporation is encouraging first-time voters to exercise their franchise this election. The civic agency has organized a “Selfie with EPIC” contest wherein the voters need to click their photographs with their electoral photo identity card (EPIC) and post it on social media. As part of the contest, five lucky winners will also win exciting goodies. Peoples can now post selfie showing their EPIC cards (voter ID) and upload on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram and afterward tag Mysuru City Corporation with #namma_matha_namma_hakku.

The civic body has chosen the social media platform to charm the youths, particularly the ones who are new voters. The pages of Mysuru City Corporation are very active on both Facebook and Instagram. While there are 10,000 followers on Facebook, there are nearly 2,500 followers on Instagram pages. The MCC has asked youngsters to upload selfie with EPIC and tag the civic body. The civic body wants youngsters to spread awareness about voting. The entries for the selfie contest began on Thursday and selfies can be uploaded till April 12. The five lucky winners will be chosen only at the end of the contest. Individuals can upload their selfie with the card or take a group selfie with friends and upload it.

Speaking to TOI, MCC commissioner Shilpa Nag said the selfie contest is sorted out to attract young voters. “The contest is to remind people about the dates of the parliamentary election. While the hashtag #namma_matha_namma_hakku is to send a message on the importance of voting. Selfie craze is widespread among the young generation and they will also know about the EPIC card when they take a picture with it. Through informal, more new voters will get their card done,” Nag said. The MCC social media handler said that the contest is receiving a big response and they are anticipating a total of 1,000 entries.
