The Devendra Fadnavis government of Maharashtra has ordered to distribute Shrimad Bhagavat Geeta to the students of the college in Mumbai, for which a new dispute has arisen. Directorate of Higher Education has issued a circular in this regard, according to which 100% non-government assisted A & A class colleges of NAC (NAAC) in Mumbai should teach Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta.

In the circular issued by the Directorate of Higher Education, in order to distribute the Shrimad Bhagavat Gita in the students, it has been said that the Principal of the college should also send the receipt to the department. On this, the Congress and NCP leaders have accused the BJP government of implementing pro-Hindu agenda through the education department. The opposition asked why only the Bhagwat Gita is being distributed to the students of the college.

Since the country is secular, there should be a secular environment in educational institutions. In the Legislative Assembly, NCP leader Jayant Patil has questioned the religious knowledge of Education Minister Vinod Tawde. He said that the Education Minister has given this order to get headlines in the media.

At the same time, Education Minister Vinod Tawde said that Congress, NCP and Socialists should clarify whether Sri Krishna has given wrong texts in Shrimad Bhagavata Geeta. Therefore, it should not be divided among students. Also, he clarified that no such order has been given by the government nor has the money been given for Shrimad Bhagavat Gita. Bhakti Vedanta Book Trust has distributed free distribution of 18 pieces of Bhagwad Geeta in colleges.
