Liverpool confirmed on Saturday that it had agreed a 192 million dollars deal to sell Brazilian international Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona. Philippe Coutinho is joining Barcelona after Liverpool agreed Saturday to sell the Brazilian in a deal that makes him one of the most expensive players in soccer history. In a statement issued from Anfield Stadium, Liverpool confirmed that Coutinho will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with Barcelona, subject to medical and agreement of personal terms, "The player now has permission to conclude the transfer immediately."

Barcelona did not reveal the cost of the deal for the 25-year-old playmaker but a person familiar with the details told The Associated Press that the transfer is worth 160 million euros (i.e 192 million dollars). That fee would eclipse the 105 million euros Barca paid Borussia Dortmund for France forward Ousmane Dembele in August. It would also see Coutinho become the second most expensive footballer ever behind compatriot Neymar, who moved from Barcelona to Paris St Germain for 222 million euros in August.

Coutinho joined Liverpool from Inter Milan for 11.6 million dollars in January 2013. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told "It is with great reluctance that we as a team and club prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho.
