On Monday, a shocking incident of "moral policing" took place in the Kolkata Metro. According to the reports a young couple was allegedly travelling, who in turn harassed and trashed by some of their co-passengers for "being too close". The couple boarded the train late on Monday night.

The incident took place after some elderly co-passengers opposed to their "intimacy in public", quotes TOI. The objection led to a heated argument in between the two. During the hot argument, the young couple was reportedly assaulted with embarrassing questions followed by punches, kicks and slaps inside a station after they deboarded the train.

Kolkata Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee in her statement said, "Unfortunately, no complaint has been lodged as yet and this makes it very difficult to conduct an inquiry,". CPRO further added that the Metro was "against moral policing".

She also said that the CCTV footage in the station did not record any incident of an assault. Though videos of the thrashing, which were shot by passersby, have since gone viral all over the social media.Leading to the incident, a protest took place outside the Dum Dum Metro Station on Tuesday.
