Varanasi: A complaint case has been filed against Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for allegedly entering the sanctum sanctorum of Kashi Vishwanath (KV) temple here and offering prayers there during her visit to the city on March 20. The case has filed allegedly defiling a place of worship and insulting the Hindu faith.

According to report, Varanasi-based advocate Kamlesh Tripathi filed the complaint on March 27 alleging that Priyanka is a Christian and her entry to the sanctum sanctorum of the temple has hurt religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. Tripathi said the court heard the matter on Monday and fixed April 12 as the next date of hearing.

The layer told news sgancy ANI,  “I'd filed a petition in CJM court seeking orders for registering a case against Priyanka Gandhi who is a Christian, for offering prayers at Vishwanath Temple. CJM court has passed the orders to file a case. Hearing in the case will be held on 12th April.”

Tiwari argued in his petition that the case should be filed against Priyanka Gandhi as she is a Christian by belief and does not follow Hinduism. He also argued that Priyanka is a non-vegetarian as far as food preference is concerned.

The complainant also named a priest, pandit Rajan Tiwari, in his complaint for performing puja for Priyanka.

The lawyer filed the case in the CJM court under Sections 419, 295, 295A and 171H of the Indian Penal Code.

Priyanka Gandhi had darshan at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple on March 20 when she had visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency.
