TIANJIN: Veteran Leander Paes on Saturday scripted history with a world record for most doubles wins in the Davis Cup ever. Peas joined with Rohan Bopanna to not only seize a record of the 43rd win but also support India to back in tie against China.

After getting separated and forced to play together by AITA,  Paes and Bopanna crushed a fighting Chinese pair of Mo Xin Gong and Ze Zhang 5-7 7-6(5) 7-6(3) in the do-or-die doubles rubber of the Asia/Oceania Group I tie.

India was trailing 0-2 in the tie after Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal has undergone shocker tame crushes on Friday and needed a win in the doubles to keep on alive in the tie.

The Indian youth will now have to succeed both the reverse singles to enter the World Group Play-offs.

The 44-year-old Paes, India's Davis Cup hero for many years, was tied on 42 wins with Italian great Nicola Pietrangeli for long but at last beat him, even though, in a foreign soil.

Paes had made his Davis Cup debut in 1990 alongside Zeeshan Ali.  At present Ali is coach of the side, and grew into a star in the company of Mahesh Bhupathi, who is now the team leader of the side.
