Deadline to link Aadhaar Card looms up

The Central Government on Tuesday indicated in the Supreme Court that the timelines for linking the Aadhaar mandatory basis for availing the services and welfare schemes of the government can be extended beyond March 31. The central government said that there should be a little time and time to complete the pending hearings in the Aadhar case, so the government can extend the deadline beyond March 31.

A five-member constitutional bench of Chief Justice Deepak Mishra and Justice AK Sikri, Justice AM Khanvilkar, Justice DY Chandchud and Justice Ashok Bhushan agreed to the plea of Attorney General K.K. Venugopal.

Venugopal said, "We have already extended the deadline and will increase again, but we can do this at the end of the month so that the petitioner can fulfill his arguments in the matter."

The Bench said, "The Attorney General has picked up very right point and will not repeat the arguments by lawyers of the petitioners in the court case."

On December 15 last year, the Supreme Court had extended the deadline to connect Aadhaar with several schemes mandatory until March 31. Earlier, senior advocate Shyam Diwan, presenting arguments for challenging the Aadhaar, said that the deadline of 31 March can be increased because the possibility of this fact does not seem to fully consider the hearing in the matter challenging the Constitutional validity of the Aadhar Act. Will be complete.

The Bench called the Attorney General for assistance in this matter. At the end of Tuesday's hearing, Venugopal appeared before the bench and made a statement about the possibility of extension of timeframe. The case will also be heard on Wednesday.
