Hong Kong is a busy place. You get tourist from all over the world. It is also considered at business hub of Asia. It is well connected with the whole world. Hong Kong has one of the best hotels in the world. Hong Kong’s Kerry Hotel, one of the growing breed of luxury accommodation brands that are confounding the usual definitions.

The location is the first hint that the Kerry, part of the Shangri-La family, is not your average Hong Kong inn. It’s situated in the emerging Hung Hom Bay, a traditionally residential neighbourhood located a short distance from the more established tourist enclaves of Kowloon.

DRINKS AND A VIEW

Drinks at a rooftop bar feature highly on Hong Kong to-do lists. Places like Ce La Vie and Sevva in Central, Causeway Bay’s Skye, and Sugar at Taikoo Shing, crop up frequently, as does Tsim Sha Tsui’s Eye Bar and Ozone in West Kowloon.

The Kerry Hotel’s Red Sugar is quickly nudging its way into the top 10. Part indoor with outdoor terrace garden, it has 270-degree views of the harbour, and an east-side perspective of Hong Kong Island not seen from the more established parts of Kowloon.

THE MOOD FOR FOOD

The intention to make the Kerry a place as much for locals as it is for tourists is best exemplified by the Dockyard food hall. It’s a contemporary hawker-style market with stalls devoted to all kinds of Asian dishes, as well as the Western favourites such as burgers and milkshakes, and it’s a great spot for a fun casual lunch, dinner or snack.

WORKOUT GOALS

Each of us has measures which can raise a hotel from excellent to exceptional.

The outstanding view is a start, as is the volume and variety of the equipment, surpassing even my regular gym back home.

If you don’t want your dumpling addiction to turn you dumpy, I urge you to bring your workout gear.
