According to the reportes Maken had apprised Congress national president Rahul Gandhi last week about his intention. Rahul is yet to agree to his resignation.

This is not the first time when Maken has resigned. In May 2017, he had given resignation to former party president Sonia Gandhi after Congress` “unsatisfactory performance” in Delhi Municipal Corporation election. He, however, took his move back after present party Chief Rahul Gandhi, the then Congress Vice-President, persuaded him to keep on as the Delhi Congress chief.

Worth mention here the veteran Congress leader has been a two-time Member of Parliament and three-time Member of Legislative Assembly.

Maken's leaving could pave the way for a possible coalition between Congress and AAP before the 2019 alliance, sources added.
