India has successfully tested a ballistic missile ‘Dhanush’ on Friday. The test-fire was conducted from an Indian Navy ship from Odisha coast. The missile has a strike range of 350 km. The information was released by defence officials.

“The surface-to-surface missile, a naval variant of the indigenously-developed 'Prithvi' missile, was test-fired from the ship positioned near Paradip in the Bay of Bengal at around 10.52 am,” informed defence officials.

The test-fire was carried out by Strategic Force Command or SFC of the defence forces. The missile is capable of striking both land and sea-based targets and carrying a payload of 500 kg.

“The missile launch was part of a training exercise by the SFC of the Indian Navy,” said officials. “The launch has turned out to be successful as all objectives were met,” they added.

The launch and subsequent flight performance were monitored from DRDO telemetry and radar facilities in the Odisha coast.

‘Dhanush’ is a single stage, a liquid-propelled missile developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under a program named “Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme” and has been induced in defence services by the defence forces.
