Expressing deep concern over the rising incidents of rape of women across the country on Tuesday, the Supreme Court has told print, electronic and social media that in any case the victims of sexual harassment in the country should not be published or displayed in any form. The high court warned not to interview young people suffering from sexual harassment and said that it has a serious effect on the mind. 

The court directed the Center to make it aware of the proposed steps being taken for the prevention of the sexual exploitation of minors in the sheltered homes across the country. The high court said that only children with child sexual abuse can only be interviewed by the National Child Rights Protection Commission and members of State Child Rights Protection Commissions in the presence of Councilors. 

The court took a stand against the Delhi State Women Commission to try to interfere in the Bihar Shelter House and said that there should be no politics of any kind in this matter.

Earlier in the day, the bench of Justice Madan B Lokur, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice KM Joseph halted the Bihar Government against providing financial assistance to the non-governmental organization, which runs the girl shelter of Muzaffarpur. The incidents of rape and sexual abuse of girls have been reported from the shelter house. 

Referring to the figures of National Crime Records Bureau, the bench said that a woman is being victimized for every six hours in a country. According to Bureau data, 38,947 women were raped in 2016 in India.
