Festivals of colors Holi is celebrated as “Yawol Shang” in Manipur. It is the biggest and the most color full festival of Manipur and observed as a tribute to their god “Pakhangba”. this festival lasts for five days, where the first day tradition called “Yaosang Mei Thaba” is burnt in the evening and kids go door to door to collect the donation called “Nakatheng”.

On the second day, local singers with their bands perform in near by temples. On the second and third day, friends and relatives of young girls give them monetary gifts as their blessings and on the last two days, people celebrate holi with colors. Another highlight of this festival is “Thabal Chongba” (Dancing in the moonlight), where males and females from various places comes together and dance in circles, holding their hands.

The most important feature of Yaosang of Manipur is the five-day-long sports festival in every corner of the state. This is the biggest difference between the Holi festival in Manipur and other parts of the country.

On the first day of Yaosang, to lighting of the torch, local clubs organize a visit the sacred Kangla Fort. Lighting of torch signifies start up of the sports meet. The sports consist mainly of games which are easy to play and fun to watch. On the last day, however, clubs organizes a half marathon, which is a part of the festival never to be missed.
