I think it is pointless to say that Thailand is the paradise destination for travelers who look for fun awesome parties, and night outs. It is considered as the most fun-filled country. But let me tell you that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has issued a ban on smoking and littering at 24 tourist beaches, in 15 provinces located along the Andaman coast and the Gulf of Thailand, out of environmental concerns.

With the enormous increase in discarded butts on the beaches, efforts taken to clean them on a daily basis has become a tedious task for the government. To curb the menace, major steps have been taken, and if someone is caught smoking on the beaches, he or she will be put in jail for a year or will have to pay a fine up to 100,000 baht (£2,285), or both. However, there are designated areas, i.e., not near the beaches where one can smoke.

As per a survey conducted by Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), discarded cigarette butts account for a third of all beach rubbish collected by the department. Also, the team reported that they collected up to 138,000 cigarette butts on the 2.5km-long stretch of Patong beach in Phuket.

Vaping on the beaches is also a matter of concern for the government and anyone found vaping, will be fine. This step has been taken because even though vape pens are known for helping smokers to quit smoking cigarettes, the smoke emitted through these are harmful to health as stated by WHO (World Health Organisation)

Thus, the government has taken this step to curb the pollutants emitted by smoking and waste, which clogs into the sand and if they stay for long, they emit poisonous chemicals like arsenic, lead, which after coming to contact with the water cause ecological and environmental disturbances.
