Joaquim Abranches who is East Bengal footballer, he is a strong and pacy centre-forward, who normally plays as the second striker but can also operate on the wings as a wide midfielder. In recent times he has started on the left flank, often cutting inside to pose a threat in the middle. Abranches was signed by Dempo at the age of 19 and he earned his spurs in the Goa Pro League by scoring vital goals which contributed to Dempo’s winning spree. He featured in the I-league for the first time in 2009-10 when Dempo won their fourth title. He has been reunited with coach Armando Colaco who used him judiciously at Dempo after the celebrated gaffer joined East Bengal and is still with the club. He was a part of the FC Pune City roster in last year’s ISL Abranches made his debut for India on 21 March 2011 against Chinese Taipei coming on in the 70th minute for N.S.Manju. Abranches scored his first goal for India against Oman on 23 February 2012

Joaquim joined the Kolkata-based East Bengal. His first competitive match was against Kalighat M.S. in the Calcutta Premier Division 2013, where he scored the 3rd goal for his side from a forward through the pass of the Goan veteran Alvito D'Cunha. His first appearance in the I-league for East Bengal came against Shillong Lajong on 9 October 2013 as a substitute for Cavin Lobo.
