Mumbai's 'Elphinstone Station' has been renamed 'Prabhadevi'. In this regard, the Western Railway issued a statement and said that the name of the station has been named Prabhadevi for the convenience of the passengers. Now Prabhadevi station code will be PBHD. At present, the names are being changed in station boards, indicators and public announcement system.

Significantly, the name of Elphinstone station was named after Lord Elphinstone (1853 to 1860) who was the governor of Bombay. After this, the demand for changing the station's name came up and the officials decided to name it after the local goddess Prabhadevi. Then this proposal was first placed in the Legislative Assembly in 1991 by the then Transport Minister Divakar Raote from the Shiv Sena. After this, in 2016, the government has approved this proposal in the assembly. Elphinstone station came to headlines on September 29 when 29 people died in a stampede here. 

At least 3 persons were killed and more than 20 people injured in a rush at Elphinstone railway station's foot over bridge. The incident happened on the foot overbridge which is known to be jam-packed of people most of the times and particularly for the duration of peak hours.

Officials from BMC disaster management have said that the incident took place around 10.46am and 20-25 people are said to be injured in this suffocating incident. Three persons have died in the incident.

As per reported at least 3 people are found dead and over 25 people have reportedly suffered injuries after a stampede that ensued on a foot-over-bridge at the Parel Railway Station. All the injured are being rushed to nearby hospitals and a team of doctors has also reached the spot. With the rescue operation underway, several injured people are being treated with first aid at the station itself. Some reports suggest that there was a rumour of the foot-over-bridge falling that prompted the panic rush.
