Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences on the death of 39 Indian nationals in Mosul, Iraq on Tuesday.

PM Modi took to Twitter to express grieve over the tragic death and said every citizen of India grieves with kin of people who lost their lives in Iraq.

“Every Indian grieves with those who lost their loved ones in Mosul. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and pay our respects to the Indians killed in Mosul,” wrote PM Modi on Twitter.

PM Modi assured that government tried their best in the search for the missing Indians.

“Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and particularly my colleagues Sushma Swaraj Ji and VK Singh Ji left no stone unturned in trying to trace and safely bring back those we lost in Mosul. Our Government remains fully committed to ensuring the safety of our sisters and brothers overseas,” wrote PM Modi on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj had announced and confirmed the death of 39 Indians who were held hostages in Iraq in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the proceedings were disrupted due to protests by opposition parties in the former.

Later, she addressed a press conference announcing the same and clarifying on the doubts raised over the deaths.
