France has been known for its unique and ever so impressive fashion sense. The French have been setting fashion goals for the world for a long time. The land of France has given birth to some of the greatest designers of all times, such as Haute couture and pret-a-porter.

France has been dominating the fashion world since the 15th century and has produced some of the leading fashion brands of the date, like Gabrielle Bonheur 'Coco' Chanel, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Thierry Herms and Louis Vuitton have founded some of the most famous and popular fashion brands.

The French were dealing with an idea of contrast fabrics, clashes, trims and other accessories, back in the 16th century. The Silhouettes that have become really popular in the current fashion affair, were back in the 1530s, standardised to wide and conical for women and square for men. Around the same time, a tall and narrow line with a V-shaped waist became a trend. The trend focussed on the shoulder point, and sleeves and skirts for women began to be designed with a wider pattern. Ruffles and frills became extremely popular in the collar patterns.

Women wore loose gown on the petticoat like dresses. Back in the 1560s, trumpet sleeves were modified to narrow and widened patterns in the silhouettes with concentration in shoulder and hip.
