The budget session of Parliament appeared to be headed towards a failure after both Houses unsuccessful to transact any business on the 13th straight day on Tuesday amid huge- holler by parties to take up the no-confidence motion against the government.

PM Modi thanked outgoing Rajya Sabha members for their contribution to House.

PM Modi recalled efforts put by Professor Kurien as saying, “Everyone will remember Professor Kurien’s smiling face, even when he is admonishing others”.

Kurien took off Shakespeare poem to make his statement, “They kill democracy for their politics.”

“Would have been good if you could have been a part of historic upcoming bills like the Triple Talaq Bill“, PM Narendra Modi in Rajya Sabha said to retiring members.

PM Modi concluded his farewell speech by thanking Leader of the House and the Leader of Opposition for their conduct in Rajya Sabha.

“All those who are retiring from the house (Rajya Sabha) today have their own significance and each of them tried their best to contribute to the glorious future of this country. I wish you success in future”, PM Modi addressed in Rajya Sabha.

“It would have been the outgoing members’ wish to leave the House after being part of a monumental decision. But that did not happen due to the House’s fault”, PM Modi added.

On Tuesday, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned just 20 minutes after it had assembled as opposition parties protested by remaining seated in the House for half-an-hour after proceedings were cancelled.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan did not take up the no-confidence motion in opposition to the Narendra Modi-led government as the House was not in order.

On a related note, the budget session will conclude on April 6.
