Foreign tourist arrivals in India crosses 10 million marks in 2017

New Delhi [India], January 18 (NT): India's tourism sector got a major boost in 2017 with the number of foreign tourist arrivals crossing the 10 million mark. India is abundant with rich cultural heritage and pristine natural beauty which not only attracts foreign tourists but also domestic tourists. India is promoted as the tourist destination by the central government as well as different states to attract tourists to the country. Thus, tourism has emerged as a major contributor to the economy and job creation for women and youth.

To promote tourism govt organized "ParyatanParv", a nation-wide celebration of Tourism from the 5th to 25th October 2017. The programme has been organized with the objective of drawing focus on the benefits of tourism, showcasing the cultural diversity of the country and reinforcing the principle of "Tourism for All".

India earned an income of USD 27 billion from Foreign Tourist Arrivals in the year 2017. It also saw an increase of 15.2 percent in the foreign tourist arrivals to the country. The tourism sector is contributing 6.88 percent to the country's total GDP, besides 12.36 percent of the total employment in terms of jobs.Minister of Tourism K Alphons tweeted saying "Tourism flourishes under Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji.
