New Delhi [India], Jan 22 (NT): Google on Monday enthusiastically devoted its doodle to Soviet film director and film theorist, Sergei Eisenstein, on his 120th birth anniversary.

Born 22nd Jan in 1898, Sergei Eisenstein (Sergei Mikhailovich Eizenshtein) broke new ground in the theory and practices of montage in film making- the system of editing a fast-paced sequence of short shots to transcend time or recommend thematic juxtapositions.

Even though Soviet filmmakers in the 1920s opposed about how exactly to analysis montage, Sergei Eisenstein marked a note of harmony in "A Dialectic Approach to Film Form" when he noted that montage technique is "the nerve of cinema", and that "to determine the nature of montage is to work out the specific problem of cinema".

As per today Google-doodle Sergei can be seen as developing the film reels. He directed a number of revolutionary films, together with 'Battleship Potemkin', 'Strike', and 'The General Line'.

The Soviet film director is noted in particular for his silent films Strike (1925), Battleship Potemkin (1925) and October (1928), as well as the historical epics Alexander Nevsky (1938) and Ivan the Terrible (1944, 1958).

Google took to its website to express, "His films were also revolutionary in another sense, as he often depicted the struggle of downtrodden workers against the ruling class."

He was bestowed with Stalin prize in 1941 and 1946.

Sergei lost his battle of life on February 11, 1948 at the age of 50 in Moscow, Soviet Union. (NT)
