‘ Government not functioning’: Goa Congress stakes claim to form govt, writes to the governor

Days after Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was shifted to AIIMS in the national capital New Delhi, Goa Congress, along with its 14 MLAs, have staked claim to form the government in the state on Monday. They have submitted a letter before the Raj Bhavan but there has not been a meeting between the Governor and them. Ahead of the illness of CM Parrikar, his government at present is not functioning properly, the grand old Congress party asserted. Currently, they have 16 MLAs in the state.

While the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party has 14 and it has the alliance with partners MGP and Goa Forward have three MLAs each.

Goa Congress on Monday wrote the letter to Governor Mridula Sinha dismissing the BJP-led government.

Chandrakant Kavlekar,Congress Legislature Party Chief of Goa said that the party submitted 2 memorandums and requested that situation to undergo election within 18 months shouldn't arise. He added that people elected us for 5 yrs and if present govt is not capable to function, they should be given the chance.

“We're single largest party, should’ve been given the chance earlier. See how govt is functioning today.Govt hote huye bhi na ke barabar hai.We have numbers so we're staking claim. Guv will be here tomorrow. We'll request him for it”, C Kavlekar, Congress Legislature Party Chief of Goa was quoted by the leading news agency ANI.
