MUMBAI: With beautiful rangolis on the floor, delicious Puran Poli to eat and new clothes to wear, Maharashtra is all set to celebrate the grand festival 'Gudi Padwa'. Not only Maharashtra but other states in India like Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh also celebrate the day with much fanfare

 On the occasion of Hindu festival Gudi Padwa, an 18,000 square feet long Rangoli was made in Maharashtra within the duration of 9 hours. As many as 70 artists made the Rangoli by using 900 kgs of rangoli powder at Thane's Gaondevi Maidan, reported ANI.

In India, people from corner to corner of the county have a diverse tradition of celebrating New Years specific to the region they belong from.

Gudi Padwa or 'Chaitra Shukla Pratipada' implies the end of one season and the beginning of another, as farmers prepare to harvest the rabi crop and prepare for the new sowing season.

According to the Legends of Gudi Padwa, Lord Brahma created the universe which marked the beginning of 'Satyuga'. Traditionally on this day, devotees worship Lord Brahma and then hoist a Gudi or a doll to invoke Lord Vishnu or the saviour to seek his blessings.

Putting up the Gudi is a part of foremost the festival. On this day People buy green or yellow silk cloth, tie it on a bamboo stick, decorate it with red and yellow flowers, an inverted copper or silver pot and place it at the entrance or outside the window.
