Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched 'Ro-Ro Ferry Service' (Boat Service) at a cost of Rs 650 crore. This has taken the travel time between Saurashtra region and South Gujarat of Gujarat in less than an hour, from 7-8 hours. Due to the ferry service, the distance of 360 km has been reduced to 31 km. This will not only save time, fuel and money for millions of people and reduce the congestion of roads but will also give millions of opportunities for employment. 

This is the first World Class Ro-Ro Ferry Service in South India. This first round of its kind in India has the ability to bring and carry 100 vehicles, 250 passengers or just 500 people, including cars, buses, and trucks simultaneously. Earlier, in 2016, due to technical and financial difficulties, a private company attempted to launch such a service was unsuccessful. Well, the idea of such a project came only in 1963. 

This is due to the strong promotion of trade and employment. In the next four to five years, there is a possibility of creating one crore opportunities of employment under Sagarmala. This will also encourage other coastline ferry services, which will strengthen the economy of those areas. 

The coastline of India is 7500 kilometers long and navigable waterways, which is the length of 14500 milliliters in which such ferry service can be started. According to the Global Ocean Group, the Sagarmala project will expand the country's GDP by 2 percent.

This facility will not be limited to one route. The Prime Minister said that we are also planning to add other places. In the latter phase, the expansion of this scheme will extend to the Gulf of Khambhat and the Gulf of Kachh, including Hazira, Union Territory of Diu-Daman and many parts of Saurashtra. He said that in the last three years, his government has been trying to develop coastal infrastructure which would create more than one crore jobs.
