Vasanth Kumar Shivashankar Padukone, more popularly known as Guru Dutt, was born on the 9th of July 1925, in Bengaluru.  He started off his career at the movies, with the 1944 movie, Chaand.

Dutt was a renowned director, a well estabilished actor and yet the simplest soul known to the Indian Cinema.

He married a well know playback singer, Geeta Roy, in the year 1953 after a heavy opposition faced from their families side. The couple had 3 children Tarun, Arun, and Nina. Their married life had least of the peace since Guru Dutt was involved in heavy drinking and was a chain smoker, according to the sources. Dutt is supposed to have separated from wife Geeta, much before he died, the reason being his growing relations with the veteran actress, Waheeda Rehman.

Geeta Roy died in the year 1972, due to Liver failure caused by excessive alcohol consumption.

After the death of their parents, the children were brought up by their relatives.

As per the people who shared a close space with Guru Dutt, he was an extreme introvert and never talked of his feelings even to the people he spent quality time with.

His introvert behaviour is considered a major reason that pushed him into the darkness of life.
