Health ministry swap views with IMA over Medical Commission Bill

New Delhi [India], January 1 (NT): As the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a strike in opposition to the National Medical Commission Bill, Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday stated that the ministry had talks with the association on the subject of this Bill yesterday.

"We spoke to Indian Medical Association yesterday. We have heard them and put forth our perspective as well," Nadda said in Rajya Sabha today.

The National Medical Commission Bill 2017, which tries to find to replace and subsume the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body tabled in the Rajya Sabha today.

For the moment, the Indian Medical Association has called for a one-day strike in opposition to the bill today.

The draft bill was represented by Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Intending to make sure transparency, the bill also looks for to allow practitioners of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy, to practice contemporary medicine formerly they complete a short-term "bridge" course.

The bill is also aimed at bringing modifications in the medical education sector which has been under analysis for corruption and unethical practices.(NT)
