NEW DELHI: The Gujarat Assembly polls 2017 will witness a political Mahabharat contest between the two leading parties - BJP and Congress. The BJP has been crowned in power from the last 22 years in Gujarat.Congress seeks to smash the ruling party's triumph extravaganza by flattering the voters from the Patidar community. Recent caste-based activities in the state have put the great impact on the list of nominations. This time, the Congress and the BJP have carefully nominated candidates, after calculating the caste arithmetic. In 2002, 2007 and 2012 Gujarat election, the Congress avail 40 percent while the BJP sized 49 percent vote shares each time.
The assembly polls in Gujarat will held in two phases on December 9 and December 14.
Polling will be held in 89 Assembly constituencies in the first phase and 93 Assembly constituencies in the second phase.
Gujarat assembly poll has 26 Parliamentary constituencies and 182 Assembly constituencies.
There are 50,128 polling booths in Gujarat. For the first time in Gujarat Polls, a total of 102 polling stations will be manned completely by women.
Counting of votes in Gujarat will be held on December 18.
