The Indian men's hockey team is all set to leave for the Men's Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018 scheduled next week. Before they leave, the chief coach Harendra Singh tested his players in two consecutive practice matches on Thursday and Friday, at the Sports Authority of India, Bengaluru. Birendra Lakra, an Indian defender said that Playing the two matches similar to the first two matches at the Rabobank Men's Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018 was very crucial and also tough in sense of adjusting themselves towards the timing of the matches in the tournament. Players such as Rupinder Pal Singh, Kothajit Singh and 3 otherswho were put on a rest for the Men's Hockey Champions Trophy Breda 2018 have been included in the Indian team with 18 members. Lakra affirmed that they shall play with Pakistan on the first day at 2pm According to the local time which shall be followed by the second match scheduled on the next day against Argentina at 12 noon according to the local time. Hence by playing the practice matches, they intend to make their bodies used to playing such matches in the afternoon. The Indian team shall leave for the tournament on June 19. Their first match will be against Pakistan. India won a historic silver medal at the FIH Men's Hockey Champions Trophy held in London in 2016 after it lost the final match against Australia. Lakra is making a comeback into the Indian team after his last match which he played in January 2018, during his New Zealand Tour this year. He said that he feels confident about his team's ability and expectations at the Men's Hockey Champions Trophy 2018 to be held in Breda from June 23. The seasoned defender added that they have been aided by good training and also said that the team is sure to perform well." Lakra also said that the camp majorly lays emphasis on the first line of defence which inturn begins with the forwards. He also said that their position plays a major part in the process of defence and they have hence worked a lot on that aspect. He informed that they have worked on PC defending with Chris Ciriello.
