A very unlucky tournament for Afghanistan, who suffered their third consecutive loss on the ICC qualifying event. Afghanistan with their latest defeat coming against Hong Kong at the Bulawayo Athletic Club. Earlier Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bowl first, Hong Kong were struggling at 43 runs for 3 wicket before Anshuman Rath and Babar Hayat put on a 50-run stand. This was followed by a 67-run association between Rath and Scott McKechnie which put Hong Kong on course for a respectable score. Although Afghanistan managed to send back McKechnie and Rath in quick succession, useful contributions from the lower order batsmen helped Hong Kong finish with a respectable 241 runs for 8 wickets in 50 overs.

Afghanistan turn off track very early in the chase as they lost quick wickets to be reduced to 73 runs for 4 wickets. A 59-run partnership between Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran, but Hong Kong were back in command with more wickets, leaving Afghanistan at 142 runs for 7 wickets. Rain forced the players off the field for a brief period and when they came back, Afghanistan were chasing a revised target of 226 runs in 46 overs. Dawlat Zadran scored a 30-ball 40 but his efforts weren't enough to prevent Afghanistan from suffering yet another loss.
