Caribbean all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite's picks maiden five-wicket haul and Jason Holder's unbeaten 99 helped Windies register their second win in as many games as they defeated PNG by six wickets at the Old Hararians Sports Club on Thursday. After won the toss and elected to bat first, Papua New Guinea lost top-order wickets at regular intervals and were reduced to 82 for 4 at one stage. Skipper Assad Vala's played a good knock of 57 runs and his 69-run fifth-wicket stand with Mahuru Dai 35 runs helped PNG rebuild but their good work came undone as they lost five wickets for 12 runs. Norman Vanua's quick-fire 35 helped PNG reach the 200-run mark before they were bowled out in the 43rd over, with Brathwaite finishing with figures of 5 wickets for 27 runs.

With Chris Gayle not available for this match, Windies opened with Evin Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer. Both openers departed early while Marlon Samuels and Jason Mohammad also fell in quick succession, leaving Windies in a lot of trouble. The skipper came to the team's rescue and was supported by Shai Hope, who despite scoring at a sedate rate managed to stick around and stem the rot. Having put on a century stand, they saw the team over the line in the 43rd over with Holder scoring the winning run, although he narrowly missed out on his maiden ton.

Brief scores: Papua New Guinea 200 in 42.4 overs (Assad Vala 57, Tony Ura 37; Carlos Brathwaite 5-27) lost to Windies 201/4 in 43 overs (Jason Holder 99*, Shai Hope 49*; Alei Nao 16) by 6 wickets.
