IMA terms National Medical Commission Bill excessively harsh and high-handed

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India] Jan. 02 (NT): The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Tuesday termed the National Medical Commission as excessively harsh and high-handed.

The National Medical Commission Bill 2017, which hunt for to replace and consider the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body was introduced in the Rajya Sabha today.

Speaking in a press Meet here, Dr Parthiv Sanghvi of IMA stated that The IMA is in opposition to the National Medical Commission because it is a government body where 90 percent members will be nominated by the government.

He said that the structure of National Medical Commission Bill excessively harsh high-handed, unparliamentarian and against the basic philosophy and principles that have been supported by the Medical Council of India.

Dr. Parthiv said the slogan for the medical group of people is 'No to NMC (National Medical Commission).

 He lauded that the central government has left no option but to call it a 'black day' in the history of the medical profession.

The draft of the bill was tabled by J.P. Nadda in Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The bill is also intended for bringing modification in the medical education sector which has been under analysis for corruption and unethical practices. (NT)
