NEW DELHI: Amid the uproar of recent Unao and Kathua rape case IMF chief advised that Indian authorities, starting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, should pay more attention to women in the country.

Christine Lagarde, the IMF chief asserted at a media conference in Washington on Thursday.

It is noted that this is the second time in four months that IMF Chief has called out PM Modi on the poor condition of women in the country. Earlier at the World Economic Forum meet in January, Ms Lagarde said that she had suggested PM Modi to mention the women of India enough in his speech to the summit.

Ms Lagarde's recent reminder to the Indian authorities to pay attention of its women comes against the milieu of reports about an eight-year-old in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, who was kidnapped, drugged and held for several days while she was raped repeatedly and then murdered.

The managing director of International Monetary Fund termed it a "revolting" crime.

The terrible details of the suffering that the young girl had undergone before her death in January came out this month when the police filed charges against the eight accused, inducing national fury.

In the whole country PM Modi was also criticized by activists and the opposition for his silence and disinclination to reign in BJP leaders who were seen to support the accused. This case had concurred with news about another minor who is fighting for justice, alleging the police for not acting against a BJP politician Kuldeep Singh Sengar as she had allegedly raped her last year.
