"Half of Hollywood is gay", says veteran actor Ian McKellen

Hollywood, veteran star Ian McKellen has recently attacked Hollywood fearfulness in representing minorities on their big or small screen. Ian McKellen has for many years been the most famous openly gay movie star, according to The Guardian.

During an interview, McKellen was asked about his viewpoint on the controversy enclosing the choice not to show the young Dumbledore as “explicitly gay” in the upcoming movie 'Fantastic Beasts' and in 'Where to Find Them' sequel, the actor stated that nobody looks to Hollywood for social critique. They only recently discovered that there were black people in the world.

As per the sources, McKellen had been approached to play Dumbledore character in the Harry Potter series. The actor continued saying that “Hollywood has mistreated women in every possible way throughout its history. Gay men don’t exist.”

Earlier in 1998, McKellen was credited in the movie Gods and Monsters. In this, the Hollywood's veteran actor has played director James Whale. As triggering a new climate of recognition in the Hollywood industry, he said, “it was the beginning of Hollywood admitting that there were gay people knocking around, even though half of Hollywood is gay”.

On Tuesday according to the new report from support group GLAAD found only 12.8% of mainstream films starred LGBTQ characters. They have for the number to rise to 50% by 2024.
