Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmaavat previous (was Padmavati) has been facing a lot of trouble since its announcement. After a string of protests by the Rajput Karni Sena, the makers were forced to postpone the film's release date for political reasons. The controversies around the release of the film refused to die down. Now, the film has been passed by CBFC with five modifications and will now release on January 25, 2018.

Just like UP government, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur also said that he does not intend to ban Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmaavat if there is nothing controversial in it. "I had said earlier that I respect art. As far as Padmaavat is concerned, Himachal government doesn't intend to ban it in the state. If there's nothing controversial in it, we have no objection in releasing it here. I want the film to be screened in theatres," said Thakur.

The Rajput Karni Sena, on January 10, reiterated its demand for a "complete ban" on the film. "The film should be canned and thrown into the flames of Jauhar. We have heard that it is releasing on January 25 and if so happens we will take to streets and appeal our youths to hold public curfew at cinema halls," Lokendra Singh Kalvi had said at a press conference. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles. Ranveer will be seen essaying the role of Alauddin Khilji and Shahid will step into the shoes of Maharawal Ratan Singh. Deepika will be play Padmini - the Rajput queen.
