Imran Khan, chief of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI), took oath on Saturday (August 18, 2018) as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan who was a former cricketer. Islamabad President Mamnoon HusHussain administered the oath at President Rashtrapati Bhavan. Meanwhile, Congress leader and former cricketer Navjot Sidhu was also present. Pakistan Army chief Qamar Bajwa welcomed him with a hug.

The 15th National Assembly was voted on July 25 and the results were announced next day. In this, Imran Khan's party emerged as Pakistan's largest party with 116 seats. The main opposition party, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) got 64 and 43 seats respectively.

However, Imran Khan did not have the majority to form a government as there was a requirement of 172 votes in the 342-member Lower House of Parliament. But on Friday, 176 votes were cast in his favor in the National Assembly. While Opposition Shahbaz Sharif got 96 votes. This cleared the way for the PTI Chief to become Prime Minister.

At the same time, Navjot Singh Sidhu, as Prime Minister, reached Pakistan on Friday to participate in the oath-taking ceremony of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan. In a conversation with reporters in Lahore, Sidhu said that he has come to Pakistan on the invitation of his friend (Imran). This is a very special moment. He said that Players and artists wipe out distances between countries. He has come here with a message of love for the Pakistani people.
