New Delhi: India on Tuesday filed its second round of written pleadings to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague on the subject of the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, who is the Indian national and was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court on alleged spying charges.

"In keeping with the order of the International Court of Justice of January 17, 2018, India today (Tuesday) submitted its reply in the court in the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav," the External Affairs Ministry stated in a statement.

India initially approached the ICJ on May 8, 2017, for infringement of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations by Pakistan in the issue.

The Court had on May 18 directed provisional measures as behest of India and passed an order forcing Pakistan to not carry out the sentence that was awarded to Jadhav through a embarrassing trial by a military court in Pakistan.

As per the court's order, India had filed a written pleading which is also known as "memorial” in the case on September 13 last year while Pakistan filed its counter memorial on 13 December 2017.

According to the proclamation, India has now filed its counter to Pakistan's submissions to the court and Islamabad has been provided time till July 17, 2018, by the international court to file its rejoinder.
