Under the make in India program, the mobile handset is being manufactured in India. Considering a report of the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), the country has spoken of three lakh crore rupees. Assembling and manufacturing of mobile handsets in India in the last four years have completely eliminated the import of built units. It means that the built units that were first imported from other countries are now being assembled in India only.

In the report of ICEA, it has been stated that 22.5 million mobile handsets were produced in India in the year 2017-18. This figure is close to 80% of India's market requirement. Along with this, the ICEA has estimated that mobile phone handset manufacturing will be made from mobile handset manufacturer in the year 2018-19. In this period, about two crore handsets will be created.

The government of India's Make in India and Digital India initiative today opened new ways of development in the technology and telecom industry in the country. In the last 4 years, 120 new manufacturing units have been installed in India's mobile handset and Component Manufacturing industry. Here, 4.5 lakh people from many states are also getting jobs.

The kind of boom that has come up in the manufacturing sector in the last three years, under the make in India, was never seen before. India had imported handsets from other countries to 80% of the total demand till 2014-15. But the result of constant efforts in the field of manufacturing is that India has become the second largest mobile handset manufacturer after China today.

According to the ICEA, in the first two quarters of 2018-19, the total value of home-made handsets will be around 75,000 crore rupees. In addition, the turnover volume of the handset is estimated to be around 13 million units.
