NEW DELHI: India has questioned the UK ministries whether the fleeting jeweller Nirav Modi has been granted the permission to stay indefinitely in the UK even when the Enforcement Directorate has been trying to file extradition requests to various countries against Neerav Modi.

According to sources, India has approached the UK home office if Modi has provided with a PR ( Permanent Residency). A 'PR' a status granted to an individual who has no rights to live in the UK but is allowed to stay without any time limit. Hence Modi’s grade is similar to Mallya in UK and India would require to file extraditions according to the bilateral treaty. If Modi does not hold the privilege of ILR or PR, it would be easier for India to get back Neerav Modi.

Indian government terminated Modi’s passport in February. It is being believed that he travelled Belgium and UK with his other passport which also been terminated by our government. Neerav Modi is not eligible to reside in an Asylum since India does not count among the countries who let its residents reside in another country’s Asylum. Also, Modi has been confirmed of committing a fraud, which also becomes a major cause, making Neerav Modi ineligible for an Asylum. Sources reveal that the ED is ready with its legal paperwork for extradition requests against Neerav Modi. Two days ago, the ED has also filed a non-bailable warrant against Modi.
