Indian Railways to cross Indian borders connecting to Iran, Turkey

Indian Railways is going to venture up across the borders exploring the possibility of a transcontinental rail freight service connecting India with Iran and Turkey tomorrow. Apart from India, Iran, and Turkey, high-level delegations from across the nations comprising railway and customs officials from Russian Federation, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar will be attending the meet.

The Manufacturing hub of the world, CHINA already running a freight train connecting Europe from China and demonstrative setup has been made to run trains from Dhaka to Istanbul connecting Howrah, Delhi, Lahore, and Tehran. The Conference will be addressed by the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu highlighting the need for such rail connectivity for the development of the region.

It is to be considered a major boost for trade & economic development of the Aisa-Pacific region, a trans-container goos train from Dhaka to Istanbul covering Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey is to establish rail connectivity. The meet is to be organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in coordination with the Railways Ministry, to propose railway transport connectivity project in South & South-West Asia.

The meeting will be held to review & to seek innovative measures to strengthen cross-border railway transport within South & South-West Asia; wich is least connected and has integrated landmass to get suitable railway connectivity. The improved railway connectivity will boost economic growth, increasing inter-trade and transport connectivity.

The meet will be a mix of experts from diverse fields including government officials and policy experts from nine countries in South Asia and South-West Asia and Central Asia, along with representatives of international and regional organizations, railway and connectivity experts and academia, inducing the private sector as well.
