Washington: United States of America’s state department placed Siddhartha Dhar aka Abu Rumaysah, an Indian-origin Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist from Britain on its global terrorism list.

State Department put Dhar along with Abdelatif Gaini, a Belgian-Moroccan citizen on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists and imposed sanctions on them under Section 1(b) of Executive Order.

Department’s move allow government to freeze assets and property owned by Dhar subject to US jurisdiction as well as impose sanctions on him.

Under the this, US citizens are prohibited from engaging in any kind of transactions with such person.

Sanctions also deny Dhar and Gaini the resources they need to plan and carry out further terrorist attacks, it said.

Dhar who was British Hindu converted to Islam with new identity Abu Rumaysah. Once he was the leading member of Al-Muhajiroun, now defunct British terrorist organization.

Over three years back in 2014, he traveled to Syria with his wife and young children to join dreaded outfit ISIS after skipping police bail in United Kingdom.

Later, he replaced became a senior commander of ISIS replacing executioner Mohammad Emwazi who was killed in a drone attack in 2015. Dhar aka Abu Rumaysah got new identity as "New Jihadi John".

It suspected that Dhar to be the masked leader in a January 2016 ISIS video showing the execution of several prisoners.

Even, Nihad Barakat, a Yazidi teenager held as a sex slave by ISIS claimed that she was kidnapped and trafficked by Dhar in Mosul.
