Indus Water Treaty matter plea to be heard by Supreme Court

The Supreme court with the opening of the week is scheduled to hear the petition which is filed by lawyer M.L Sharma in connection with the Indus water treaty between India and Pakistan.

Back in1960 the treaty was signed by  India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan President Ayub Khan which is one of the most liberal water-sharing pacts in the world.

The agreement covers six rivers three eastern rivers of Ravi, Beas, Sutlej and their tributaries and the three western rivers of Indus, Jhelum, Chenab and their tributaries.
