New Delhi: The Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice (RCN) against running away the gem jeweller Nirav Modi, who is the main accused in the Rs 13,600-crore PNB scam, as news agency ANI reported. Earlier The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had urged Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice against the escapee diamond merchant. The ED had earlier lodged the application in the court seeking nod to begin extradition of the desertion diamantaire in links with a multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud.
As per the ED, Nirav Modi is in the UK and needs to be extradited as non-bailable warrants (NBW) has already been issued against him, and he is not presenting before the court even after prosecution objection.
Worth mention here the PNB detected the multi-crore rip-off this year, wherein Nirav Modi and his uncle-cum-business-associates Mehul Choksi had allegedly embittered the bank to the tune of USD 2 billion, with the alleged connection of a few employees of the bank. More updated waited.
The records the CBI gave to the Interpol included the non-bailable warrants issued by a Mumbai special court and the details of the charge sheets lodged in the case, etc. The documents were recovered in order and acceptable to the Lyon-based international police cooperation organization which is “processing” the CBI’s appeal, sources stated to PTI.
