West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao met in Kolkata on Monday to discuss the possibilities of a new political front in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Post the meeting, the two chief ministers interacted with reporters and shared information about the proposed third front.

Mamata Banerjee termed the meeting as a ‘good beginning’ and said discussions held were aimed at the development of the nation.

“Politics throws at you situations where you have to work with different people. I believe in politics,” she added.

K Chandrashekhar Rao said the third front will be the front will be for the people of India. “This won't be a mere alliance of a few political parties, this will be for the people. There is a need for alternate force,” he added.

Rao, when asked about the leader of the third front, said that it will be collective and federal leadership.

“Country needs growth-driven politics. India needs some miracle, it needs to re-invent, re-orient politics and today's meeting is just the beginning towards that,” said Rao.

He answered vaguely when asked about a possibility of Congress extending support to their front.

“You are thinking in the routine political model. The agenda we are proposing is different from the routine political model. This will be on people's agenda,” said Rao.

Rao aims at establishing a non-Congress and non-BJP government at the centre and the meeting was held in order to discuss new possibilities with Mamata Banerjee.
