On Wednesday, a Mumbai Court has sentenced gangster Chhota Rajan and seven others to life imprisonment in journalist Jyotirmay Dey murder case. The Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court condemned gangster Rajan in the same case earlier in the day.

Instead of all others, as per the reports published in ANI, MCOCA court judge Sameer Adkar, however, cleared former journalist Jigna Vora who was charged with instigating Rajan to carry out the killing in 2011. Paulson Joseph also got a clean chit, who was involved in handling the financial operations regarded with the conspiracy. The judgment comes nearly seven years after journalist Jyotirmay Dey was shot dead in suburban Mumbai.

According to the reports, Rajendra S. Nikhalje alias Chhota Rajan, who had sanctioned Dey's murder, is currently lodged in Tihar Central Jail in New Delhi. Earlier last year, Rajan was sentenced by a court in Delhi and condemned to seven years confinement in a case of fake passports.

Dey, 56, was shot by two motorcycle-borne men on June 11, 2011, in suburban Powai when he was on his way to his residence. At that time, he worked as a senior editor for the tabloid, Mid Day. Journalist Dey had written two books: 'Khallas: An A to Z Guide to the Underworld' and 'Zero Dial: The Dangerous World of Informers'
