Saturday: At Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, an unrecognized militant was killed in a brief encounter with security forces today. As earlier this year a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant who was involved in the killing of 22-year-old Army officer has been gunned down today.

A police official said a joint team of police and Army’s 62 Rashtriya Rifles laid an ambush to trap the LeT militant immediately after a tip-off of his movement was received in Kulgam’s Tantray Pora village in the morning.

According to the police official said, "The Army launched an operation in Yaripora area of Kulgam following information about the presence of terrorists in the area." He further said, "one unidentified militant was killed in the gunbattle."

Meanwhile, Lt. Ummer Fayyaz was abducted and killed by LeT militants when he was attending a wedding of a relative in Shopian.
