Srinagar: With the shocking move from the JK Valley, a professor from the University of Jammu awfully insulted India’s highly-revered freedom fighter Bhagat Singh calling him a “terrorist”.

Professor Mohammad Tajuddin during his lecture commented that Bhagat Singh was not a hero adding he was also considered as a terrorist.

“People used to say that it was an autocratic regime earlier and the King would not listen to anyone. The realised that the only way out was to terrorise him…this concept of terrorism was also there during our freedom struggle. We made a hero out of Bhagat Singh, but he was also regarded as a terrorist,” Tajuddin stated in the class as news agency ANI reported.

However agitated students afterward lodged a complaint against the professor for hurting their sentiments. In his defense he gave an unconvincing apology for his brash statement.

“I also consider Bhagat Singh a revolutionary. He is one of the people who sacrificed their lives for the country...I was talking on Lenin (the Russian revolutionary), and in that context, I said the State calls any violence against it ‘terrorism’...Someone took a 25-second video from my two-hour-long lecture and the word ‘terrorist’ was highlighted...It wasn’t what I meant. Still, if I have hurt anyone’s sentiments, I am really sorry for that,” he stated.

Reports suggested that the varsity administration has taken cognizance of the complaint by the students and is looking seriously into the subject.

“The 6-member committee will look into the entire incident. Let us wait for the outcome of the inquiry committee and based on that, we'll take further action,” Prof Manoj K Dhar, Vice-Chancellor of the university stated.
