Jignesh Mevani's supporters obstruct BJP MPs from garlanding Ambedkar's statue

AHMEDABAD: On the occasion of the 127th birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Amedkar Chaotic scenes were witnessed in Ahmedabad on Saturday during an exchanging of blows between supporters of Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.

“Ruckus at an event on the occasion of #AmbedkarJayanti as MLA Jignesh Mevani's supporters tried to obstruct BJP MPs & members from garlanding BR Ambedkar's statue. #Gujarat” ANI tweeted.

The quarrel kicked off after Mevani's supporters allegedly tried to get in the way of BJP MPs and members and obstructed them from garlanding BR Ambedkar's statue at an event in the city.

The event was organized on Saturday to make celebration on the birth anniversary of BR Ambedkar. The activists also raised slogans in opposition to the BJP at the event.

Five activists have been held by the police for attempting to put off a BJP MP from garlanding the statue. Confirming the incident, Mevani named the activists who have been detained by the police. He took his official twitter handle and informed "While protesting against BJP leaders, Subodh Parmar, Bharat Shah, Jagdish Chavda, Raju Valwaikar and Bipin Roy have been detained from Sarangpur," he tweeted.

According to reports, BJP MP Kirit Solanki was among those who were clogged from paying tributes to Dr Ambedkar.
